Over Half Of Travellers Buy Alcohol In Airports

According to the latest Consumer Insights report from Empathy Research, 56% of those who have travelled abroad in the last 12 months have bought alcohol in the airports that they were travelling through.

A glimpse into the minds of today’s consumers

Price is king and consumers are more concerned in getting value and less interested in brand names, a new report for Bord Bia shows.

The online study by WPP’s insight agency The Futures Company shows consumers are becoming far more independent and less reliant on old forms of authority and claims made by brands on packs and in adverts.

Furniture and homewares lead retail sales comeback

Homeware and furniture are leading the way, as the retail sector continues to increase sales, according to the latest industry data.

Average sales in the industry rose by almost 5 per cent in the second quarter to the end of June, according to new figures from lobby group Retail Excellence Ireland (REI).

Bord Bia Study Finds Price More Important Than Brand Names

67% of consumers now believe that price is more important to them than brand names, compared to 58% in 2010, according to a new Bord Bia study.

In addition, consumers are taking extra care when making purchases, with 72% of people increasingly likely to spend time researching a product before making a purchase (up from 67% in 2010).

Facial emotion tracking for retailers

With this technology, retailers are able to track costumers’ emotions in order to gain a better understanding of their shopping decisions

Retailers are investing in different technologies to increase footfall, have a better consumer understanding and gain shoppers’ loyalty. According to a recent study carried out by Nielsen, shoppers tend to spend up to 15 seconds at a shelf and over 67% of buying decisions are made at the point of purchase.

Facial emotion trackingIn order to make the most of those 15 seconds, retailers are implementing facial emotion tracking technology to gain more accurate and real-time data about their shoppers’ interactions with products, salespeople and the store.

Treats back on shopping list as Irish consumers once again spending on nights out and holidays abroad

After several years of tightening our belts, we are once again treating ourselves to holidays abroad and nights out. A new study has revealed shoppers spent more on overseas breaks and trips to the cinema in the past month than they did this time last year. Figures from Visa Europe’s Irish Consumer Spending Index showed consumer spending was up by 5.6% last month compared to June last year.

How Amazon revolutionised shopping over the last 20 years

Irish retailer Primark holding job fairs in Boston in July

One of Europe’s largest retailers, Primark, is looking for over 450 employees to staff its first U.S. store , slated to open early this fall in Boston.

The clothing company is hosting job fairs in July at the Omni Parker House Hotel, located a few blocks away from Primark’s location in the Downtown Crossing neighborhood in Boston.
