Retail sales set to grow by 9%

Consumer spending could rise by 9% in volume terms this year helping to maintain Ireland’s status as the the eurozone’s fastest growing economy for a second consecutive year. CSO figures published yesterday show a 1.4% increase in headline retail sales volumes for March, when compared to the previous month.

36% Of Online Shoppers Use Phones To Shop Online, Study Finds

The latest Pulse study by Carat has found that more than a third (36%) of consumers that shop online use their smartphone to do so. This is an increase from 28% last year. The majority of consumers continue to use their laptop to make online purchases (77%), however this has declined since last year (78%). The number of online shoppers using a tablet has also risen, to 34% from 26%.

Caution urged on growth in retail sales

Retail Excellence Ireland has warned against over-exuberance regarding recovering consumer spend figures, despite 4% year-on-year growth evident in the first three months of the year.  “The first quarter of 2015 proved a relatively positive quarter which started well with like-for-like gains of 4.37% in January, mainly a function of today’s consumer tendency to postpone spending into the sales period.

Most SME websites can’t process sales

The vast majority of small businesses with websites in Ireland aren’t equipped to trade online, a survey has found, even though the market has been estimated to be worth €21bn by 2017. While more than six-in-ten SMEs have a website, 91pc admit that they cannot process sales via the internet, according to research commissioned by IEDR.

BOGOF Offers Most Likely To Convince Consumers To Switch Brands

Meath shoppers like their onions!

Tesco has created a map of Ireland’s fruit and vegetable eating habits by analysing weekly data collected in all of its stores over the past 12 months and the results have shown that Meath and Laois shoppers buy a larger proportion of onions than the rest of the country.

Almost Half Of Wine Drinkers Have A Country Preference

Almost half of all wine drinkers (47%) have a preference for wines from a particular country, according to the latest Consumer Insights study conducted by Empathy Research. By region, this preference was found to be strongest in Dublin, with over half (53%) from the capital city saying that they have a preference for wines from a particular country.
