Ireland 9th in EU for digital activities, connectivity – survey

A new report on digital services in Europe ranks Ireland as ninth out of 28 countries in the European Union. The new Digital Economy and Society index measures connectivity – how widespread, fast and affordable broadband is – internet skills, the use of online activities from news to shopping and how digital technologies like ecommerce and digital public services are developed.

Von Bismark works on new e-commerce platform for Xbox

Von Bismark, the startup which was founded by twentysomething Dublin City University graduate Eoghan O’Sullivan, is building an app called The Mall for Xbox. It is about to go live in the UK and the United States. The Irish startup company has the sole exploration rights to develop the shopping platform for Xbox One, which has sold more than 10 million units globally.

Shoppers flash most cash on capital’s Henry Street

Consumers are forking out €84 on average during a shopping spree on Henry Street, while those on Grafton Street – long considered the country’s most upmarket shopping thoroughfare – are spending only €57. The average spend across the city is €70.

Sales up 1.2% in Irish grocery market

The Irish grocery market is improving with the latest figures from Kantar Worldpanel showing sales are up by 1.2%. This follows a strong performance at Christmas and means that the market is now in its 11th consecutive period of growth.

Retail sales volumes increased by 5.1% last year

Retail sales volumes rose by 0.5 per cent last month and were up 5.1 per cent on an annual basis, new figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show. If motor trade figures are excluded, there was a 1.9 per cent rise in the volume of retail sales in December and a 4.8 per cent jump in the annual figure.
