Three hours and 28 minutes… how long Irish adults spend watching TV each day

The nation’s fondness for watching television continued unabated in 2014, with figures compiled by Nielsen for industry ratings body Tam Ireland suggesting Irish adults aged 15 or older watched the small screen for an average of three hours and 28 minutes each day.

77% Of Irish Adults Buy Organic Food

Over three-quarters (77%) of Irish consumers have bought organic food products before, according to the latest Consumer Insights survey by Empathy Research. Of 953 participants, more women (81%) than men (73%) are likely to have bought organic products before.

Dublin voted fifth best shopping city in world

Readers of Conde Nast Traveller have voted Dublin in fifth place in a new poll of the planet’s top 24 shopping destinations. Bustling Barcelona tops the rankings, with Philadelphia, Hong Kong and Chicago in second, third and fourth places respectively. Exactly half of the shopping destinations in the prestigious list are cities in the US, while just eight are European.

Innovation On The Agenda For Irish Businesses In 2015, Study Finds

Close to half (45%) of Irish businesses are planning to create new products and services in 2015, according to a study by innovation agency jump!. The study, which surveyed 79 businesses in Ireland (and 102 in the UK) across a broad range of industry sectors, found that 97% of Irish businesses surveyed see innovation as being important to their future success with 52% indicating that innovation will be a ‘primary focus’ in their organization.

Retail sales rise marginally in November

The volume of retail sales rose by increased by 0.2 per cent in November when compared with October 2014, and were up 4.7 per cent on an annual basis, according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

Shoppers buying more, but only if price is right

As a new consumer-sentiment index shows a more confident mood, the latest Central Statistics Office figures reveal that consumers are buying more stuff – but only if it’s at the right price. The value of our purchases rose by a much more modest 2.2pc, showing stores had to cut prices in order to persuade us to buy.

67% of Irish Adults say that the New Year encourages them to eat healthier, according to the latest Consumer Insights survey from Empathy Research. Of 944 participants, this trend was seen more in women (74%) than in men (60%).
