With just two weekends of shopping left, festivals, cheap parking schemes and extra public transport are being organised in a bid to get the biggest possible slice of the spending action. Retailers say today and next Saturday will be the most lucrative days for stores around the country.

Irish people spend more per head on Christmas than others in West

Irish people spend more money over the Christmas period than people in any of the major Western economies, a new study has shown. The report from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) found that last Christmas we spent almost €965 ($1,200) per person, almost twice as much as Americans.

Christmas 2014: Irish shoppers to spend an average of €600 each over the festive season

Christmas-mad Irish shoppers are planning to splurge an average of €600 on making this festive season perfect, it has been revealed. Generous mums and dads will fork out around €180 on “Santa” presents and the good news is that almost 30% of people are feeling positive about their finances.

Retail sales buck trend of positive economic data

Retail sales have again bucked the trend of positive indicators surrounding the economy, registering a 0.7 per cent drop in October, primarily on the back of falling car sales. However, when the volatile motor sector is excluded from the picture, sales rose by 0.3 per cent on the previous month, suggesting recovery in the sector is continuing, albeit modestly.
